Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit, Southern General Hospital, Glasgow.

Project Summary

Lanfine Contracts was commissioned to provide blinds and soft furnishings for nine bedrooms and an open plan kitchen/dining area within this new specialist healthcare Unit. Initially we presented a selection of storyboards demonstrating a wide range of colour schemes, designs and fabrics options to the client. We then conducted a detailed site survey and ordered the client's chosen fabric before manufacturing all the products to the highest international quality standards from our factory. Our expert fitter installed all the products on site within the agreed timescale.

Products

For each bedroom Lanfine Contracts provided stylish pinch pleat curtains with hold back arms and an anti-ligature metal curtain track, a roller blind with appropriate safety mechanism and anti-ligature fittings, co-ordinating bedspreads and cushions for twin beds and quality upholstery for a set of armchairs. For the dining area, we manufactured solid vein vertical blinds with a chain free wand control system, meeting all health and safety requirements.

Fabrics

The curtains, bedspreads and cushions were all produced in functional but stylish FR fabric, washable to 70 degrees to minimise the risk of infection and meeting all NHS standards. The roller blinds were produced in scrubbable Flame Retardant fabric. The chairs were upholstered in anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, hardwearing, waterproof fabric, designed specifically for healthcare application.

Timescale

The products were installed one month from the first client meeting, prior to the official opening of the Unit.

Client response

This was the first job Lanfine Contracts carried out on behalf of the Southern General Hospital. Clinical Manager Margaret McKillop MBE gave extremely positive feedback to Greater Glasgow Health Board's Procurement Department on the service provided by Lanfine Contracts.
